"God has given you one face and you make yourselves another. You jig and amble, and you lisp, you nickname God’s creatures and make your wantonness your ignorance. Go to, I’ll no more on ’t. It hath made me mad."

The Merry Wives on Windsor on stage. One of the most underrated Shakespeare’s comedy ever. For me, it is one of the best!

Impossible

It always seems impossible until it is completely done

Orwell’s Plain Language

Plain, yes. Boring, no. Barbarous, never!

  1. Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech that you are used to seeing in print.
  2. Never use a long word when a short word will do.
  3. If it is possible to cut out a word, always cut it out.
  4. Use the active rather than passive voice.
  5. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.
  6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.
